Facial and Grey Hair UNITE!
Nathaniel Hawthorne. I know you better than I ever envisioned as a bare teen. Never did I think you and I would become friends and intimates. I'm sorry for my depiction of you as a teen and now as a fellow grey haired.
Was it just me or did Nathaniel Hawthorne populate your assigned school reading from junior high through high school? I didn't like him too much by my junior year. But while reading "North Woods" by Daniel Mason (an excellent book), I made a note to read American Notebooks. By Nathaniel Hawthorne. Muh. But I mind myself unless it has to do with exercise or answering texts (sorry, stop feeling miffed), so I went to the internet archive and read through them. Not in their entirety, but enough to see I was wrong about him and he was an interesting man with interesting observations (And some dull ones. Life is not all thrills and chills in colony life - ask Hester. She was not ultimately loving life there). ANYWAY. I digress slightly. Interesting enough in another way. I decided Nathaniel (yes, we are first name terms) would be my facial and grey hair watercolor muse. Bet he did not envision that coming. Thank you Wikipedia for the image. That will be the only 'Thanks" they ever get from me. Pigs.
The Muse: "He's got no F'ing neck!" If you know, you know. My interests are wide ranging.
The Study: I didn't use any masking or white paint. Should I have? Probably. I feel like I use masking as a crutch. But if you have an injured leg, there is no shame. I have an injured leg. I cannot leave white. I am a paint maximalist. Let no spot go uncolored! So it looks rather amateurish. But you have to start somewhere.
I know I have been just doing watercolors lately. But the passion for it will not and cannot be quenched so far. I briefly thought about doing a felting project. Then decided I didn't really want to! So painting it is.
Oh on the topic. I went to the Dixie Watercolor Society meeting last night. They demo'ed how to do skies fast and in different ways. An excellent demo. I will be trying my hand at that coming up and will probably blog about it. The artist was kind enough to offer me his sample to take home! I haven't asked if he is OK with mentioning his name. He is a brilliant watercolorist. I am not good (yet) at doing skies or landscapes (yet!) for that matter. But it starts with the sky so...
That was more of a reminder for me to blog about skies. Sorry. Mind=sieve.
